Macs, of course, are not immune; malware such as OSX/FruitFly, OSX/Crisis, OSX/Mokes, and others, all attempt to spy on Mac users.
Hardwired Camera Systems With Monitor
OverSight constantly monitors a system, alerting a user whenever the internal microphone is activated, or the built-in webcam is accessed. And yes, while the webcam’s LED will turn on whenever a session is initially started, new research has shown that malware can surreptitious piggyback into such existing sessions (FaceTime, Sykpe, Google Hangouts, etc.) and record both audio and video – without fear of detection.

Hello
I had a same problem with my Macbook Air 13' . FaceTime HD camera won't work in any app, just blinking green light and black window instead of a video.
I tried to Reset SMC or PMU and it does not help me at all. Than I go to System Report > Camera it shows Model ID and Unique ID of my camera.
That's mean I have FaceTime camera in my system and it is recognized. I start thinking that I have camera hardware issue because nothing helped and I give up on it.
But couple days ago I give it another try by going to iFixit.com and see how and where camera cable connects to logic board of my Macbook Air. They have very good Guides with pictures. I disconnect my FaceTime camera cable and reconnected back to logic board, put everything back as it was.
This fix my FaceTime camera and I hope it will help you to.
